ASTO - The Association of Sail Training Organisations - is the UK's National Sail Training Organisation.
Our membership is made up of more than 30 not-for-profit organizations that operate more than 50 Sail Training vessels around the UK. ASTO is a registered charity (no. 1083059) and company registered in England and Wales (no.4084476). ASTO's Royal Patron is HRH The Countess of Wessex GCVO. ASTO is also a founding member of Sail Training International, with ASTO's Chairman sitting on STI's International Council.
Sail Training is a challenging and fun way to develop self-confidence and change lives. It is not about learning to sail, but uses the experience of being at sea as a means to help people learn about themselves, discover hidden strengths and talents, and understand the value of working as a team. Participants learn to manage themselves and interact with others, dramatically boosting their self-awareness and confidence.
ASTO supports its members in a variety of ways, including issuing grants, organising events and raising the profile of Sail Training. Through a generous grant from Trinity House, we can ensure that our seagoing staff are trained to the highest levels of professionalism.
